It’s that time of the month again. The time when Cubensis goes to the beach city of Hermosa Beach, CA and plays the legendary Lighthouse Cafe. Always a capacity crowd for Cubensis, this week is a special week for the Lighthouse as it celebrates 62 years of business. Other than the monthly visits from Cubensis to the beach side venue, they’ve have a steady stream of top notch musician roll through their doors.
Formerly a Jazz club in the 50’s, the Lighthouse Cafe has hosted some of the biggest names in jazz music including Charlie Parker and Miles Davis. One of the oldest clubs in the Southbay, the Lighthouse has endured 62 years of changing music and even found themselves as a backdrop for some major motion picture like the 1990 beach vollyball flick, Side Out with C. Thomas Howell. You might not recognize the Lighthouse in the movie, it’s all decked out in Miami Vice style pink and green pastels.
Shakedown News wishes CJ and the rest of the Lighthouse staff another successful 62 years!
