Don’t drink this water! That’s the handwritten sign that hangs above the sink in the home of Mike Markham and Marsha Mendenhall who live in Weld County, Colorado. Why? Because Mike and Marsha’s water is flammable. In the new HBO Documentary film “Gasland” by Josh Fox, they demonstrate by literally lighting the water coming out of the faucet with a bic lighter. Not just a little flammable. This stuff goes up like Molotov cocktail. But it’s not just Mike and Marsha’s water that does this. It’s a growing epidemic in communities where companies are drilling for natural gas. Just because “NATURAL” is in the name, doesn’t mean it’s ok.

Fox’s HBO documentary, Gasland is airing right now on HBO and examines the contamination and projected future contamination of the US public’s drinking water. His insight and persistence has captured on film the real dangers of the natural gas industry. An industry that Dick Cheney gave a free pass around the Clean Water Act. Why? Because Halliburton is a major player in natural gas drilling technology. Are things making sense yet? Is this getting through? Connect the dots, la la la, connect the dots…
