Back for its fifth and biggest year yet, Venice Beach Music Fest 5 will rock the beach with two FREE days of music and a large art show on Saturday, August 14, and Sunday, August 15. The festival will be held at Windward Plaza, at the west end of Windward Avenue in the park between the boardwalk and the bike trail.
VBMF5 features 14 bands and a 20-artist display. Bands play original music from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day, with ATS Bellydance and Drum Collective entertaining between sets early on Saturday. Made possible by the community and its generous merchants, the festival is a celebration of the independent spirit of Venice and the passion of its inhabitants, and anyone who loves the beach and a good time is welcome! The event is produced by local promoter Milton Rosenberg and SugarBitch guitarist and founder Michael Jost.
The eclectic band lineup for Saturday, August 14, 2010, includes the benefit contest winner, The Muddy Reds, Robin Moxey, Steve Watts and the Humboldt Allstars, Blessed Le Strange, Moo Got 2, and local ska and punk heroes Meet Me at the Pub.
Sunday’s lineup includes The Towels, Sassafras, Vintage Trouble (featuring Ty Taylor), Golden Buddha, Insects vs. Robots, festival veterans and founders SugarBitch, and The Chuck Dukowski Sextet. Chuck Dukowski was the bassist and songwriter for the seminal punk band Black Flag.
The festival is sponsored in part by Venice Neighborhood Council, 100.3FM The Sound, Venice Beach Suites & Hotel, The Sidewalk Café, Venice Boardwalk Association, Fatbol Clothing, Danny’s Venice Beach Bistro & Bar, Rock City News, Candelas Guitars, Venice Chamber of Commerce, Control Printing, and Globuspeak.
