RIP Waterfront in Marina Del Rey

The Waterfront Soon To Be Shut Down

Finally, Marina Del Rey got a kick ass music venue that’s welcoming to jambands and the fans that come in tow and now the venue is being forced to close up shop a mere 2 years after opening.

This story is too insane to believe.  An upscale eatery with a medium hall music venue on the marina in Marina Del Rey with nothing around it but touristy hotels, yachts, beach, high rise apartments and restaurants is being run out of town by someone complaining about NOISE.  Dude, you live in LA by the airports…noise is what we got.  It seems that, however, the single neighbor (who has not been named) in question is hiding his real intentions behind a noise complaint.

Craig Marshall of Cubensis who has played the “Marina Meltdown Sundays” at the Waterfront for almost a year told Shakedown News, “This is basically the work of one disgruntled individual, a politically-connected neighbor who also sits on some Planning Commission and has his own agenda involving the property. He’s riled up the neighbors with lies and negative publicity which has no basis in fact.”

So a political smear campaign yielded favorable results for him but leaves the West side music fans asking, “WTF?”  Doesn’t look like this one is going to go the way of the good guys and yet another killer venue falls to big developers.  Music Gods…WAKE UP!  House of Blues, Waterfront, Knitting Factory…what next…The Greek?  The Wiltern?  The Orpheum?

Cubensis played their last show at the Waterfront 9/19.  The previous weekend they were joined by Moonalice.  Glad they squeezed that one in before “THE MAN” came down on the venue.

  1. Typical LA ranting from self-entitled brats. I happen to live near here and that place is a freaking nightmare. It is so loud, plus the a-holes who come out of there drunking & yelling keep the noise going long after the place is shut down. To say “Dude, you live by the airport” is not only lame, it’s stupid. Planes can’t fly after whatever hour, like midnight, but this shi*hole goes on until after 1 and the noisy jerks coming out flap their screaming gums for another 2 hours. I always wished I could follow one of them home and bang on their door repeatedly at 6am and see how THEY like it. I expect traffic noise and yeah, some airport noise, in this neighborhood. But there’s no reason on earth this place had to be so loud, they made NO plan for muffling the noise and LESS OF NO PLAN for curbing the drunken screamers. Oh, BTW, douchebag – it wasn’t ONE NEIGHBOR, there’s dozens of us. You have no clue, pathetic.

  2. I ALSO live near there and you are full of crap!! Like ANY bar there is some noise but it sure as hell isn’t so bad to have it shut down. This is a truly unjust scenario.
