On 10-10-10, Brennan’s Pub in Marina Del Rey, CA was transformed from the home of the Thursday night turtle races into a jammy bluegrass Americana rockin’ night with Nate LaPointe Band and Sugar Mountain. Son Vo and Halina Janusz of Mother Jones Band opened the night acoustic occasionally joined on stage by Nate LaPointe and CeCe Sherman of the Nate LaPointe Band and Carla Capolupo of Sugar Mountain.

An early highlight of the evening was certainly an acoustic duo performance of Son Vo and Halina Janusz of Mother Jones Band. Pulling out a few MJB songs and then inviting Nate LaPointe and Carla Capolupo on stage for a John Lennon birthday tune.
I’d not yet seen the all female, Sugar Mountain until last night and all the buzz around this trio is certainly well deserved. With Halina Janusz (Mother Jones Band), CeCe Sherman (NLB, Cubensis) and Carla Capolupo picking their way through catchy bluegrass and Americana rootsy sounding songs, they mix and match instruments including mandolin, acoustic guitars, upright bass and banjo to teleport you to a Sugar Mountain cabin front porch. Halina and CeCe trade off vocals to create melodic harmonies with their angelic voices. Looking forward to much more from these women. The Dixie Chicks for the jamband scene.
Nate LaPointe Band brings it every time and last night was no different. Mixing the axe slinging talents of Nate LaPointe with a collection of incredibly talented musicians, well written catchy songs and back-up vocals from CeCe, NLB’s jammy Americana style has pushed the envelope yet again. After this years release of Speaking of It, LaPointe has stretched his legs out much more. Their live performance last night pulled out all the stops to push the jam envelope into the ether.
