Widespread Panic swept through Los Angeles, CA on October 22nd and played the Greek Theater. A one show stop in the city that last year was graced with multiple nights at the Orpheum Theater downtown. A drastic change from this years’s outdoor single night engagement.
Opening the night was LA’s own Big Organ Trio with Mike Mangan helming the Hammond B3 on the courtyard stage to the enjoyment of the early arrivals. A 6pm start for BOT brought a good portion of the crowd through the gates early, drawn in by the rockin’ funk from Mangan and the boys. Their new album, which debuted in August is fantastic. Check it out at www.mikemangan.com.
Panic took the stage just after 7pm and opened with a rockin’ “Goin’ Out West” highlight of the first set. Keeping the energy of the crowd up and moving throughout the first set, John Bell and company took it into set break with a killer “Sewing Machine.”
Second set took a turn into a more mellow groove with moments of greatness including a fantastic “Chilly Water” which brought the water showers from the crowd. Capping the night off with “None of Us Are Free” and “Ain’t Life Grand” encore put the exclamation point at the end of another great Panic show. They move on to Las Vegas, Vally Center, CA, Grand Prairie, TX and ending the Fall Tour on Halloween weekend in New Orleans, LA.
If you missed LA, hit the San Diego show on Sunday…you won’t be disappointed. Remember, it’s ok to PANIC!
