Quactus and Particle Closed Out 2010 With A San Diego Quacticle

New Years Eve 2010 celebrations kicked off early in San Diego on 12/30 with a true Quacticle at Winston’s in Ocean Beach, CA.  The culmination of Particle’s 10 year anniversary tour closing the way it opened in October with Quactus sharing the bill.  A great way to close out an eventful year for both bands.

Quactus

Kicking off the night was LA’s rising star jamband, Quactus.  Joined for the night by percussionist, Keith Erickson, Quactus rocked a solid set which included a New Years Eve inspired mash-up of 1999 by Prince and Celebration by Kool & The Gang.  The 2011 energy was flowing through the crowd as the nearly full Winston’s dance floor bounced with newly indoctrinated Quactus fans or “Quacti” as the band refers to them.  Seth Gordon, usually perched behind the lead mic with guitar in hand, took a welcomed spot behind his new midi infused keyboard to take the Quactus set up yet another notch.

Quactus Setlist:  The Offer > Superflitious, Esprit D’escalier, Scarlet Begonias (Grateful Dead), If I Lost My Way > His Father’s Son, Wine, Alligator, 1999/Celebration (Prince/Kool & The Gang).

Particle

Particle took the stage just before 11 pm and delivered two full sets of Particle tasty treats kicked off by their signature “Launchpad.”  All Particle cylinders were firing as original guitarist, Charlie Hitchcock along with Steve Molitz and the rest of Particle took the San Diego crowd on a musical journey through space and time.  An excellent way to heat up an unusually chilly Southern California night in Ocean Beach.

Second set highlights revealed the Quacticle as Matt “Duffy” McDufee and Keith Erickson from Quactus joined Particle on stage for most of the set behind the percussion rig helping Particle’s drummer, Darren Pujalet and bass player, Erik Gould set the back beats.  Indeed an epic blending of two amazing bands.

Rumor has it that Particle and Quactus are planning a 2011 West Coast tour together.  We are anxiously awaiting the details!
