The college town of Fullerton, CA got a special treat on Thursday night when LA’s premier Grateful Dead tribute pulled the plug on their electrics and delivered a 2 hour all acoustic set at The Slidebar. A full house of delighted fans danced the night away to a “Reckoning” style set. Highlights included a late set “I Know You Rider” followed by “The Wheel” and a set closing “Ripple.” Encore brought the house to tears as Cubensis delivered a heartfelt “Box of Rain” to close out the night.
The introduction of mandolin by Nate LaPointe provided an additional bonus adding to the nights unique sound. With a full Cubensis, including CeCe Sherman on vocals and second drummer, Ed Fletcher, there was nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.
As they ended the night, Craig Marshall addressed the crowd saying, “We’d like to thank Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. This is their music and we’re happy to be able to play it for you.” Everyone seemed to agree, they’re happy that Cubensis plays it too.
Cubensis heads to San Diego for their next stop, performing on Saturday, Feb 19 at Winston’s in Ocean Beach, CA. Then back up the coast to their resident Sunday nights at The Central in Santa Monica, CA from 6-10pm.
