- Nate LaPointe and Jason Carver of Barley Legal at The Key Club in Hollywood
The Southbay newspaper, The Easy Reader has announced the winners of the “Best of the Beach” voting and Hermosa Beach based “Southbay Beach Rock” band, Barley Legal has taken the “Best Original Music Band” category. Barley Legal recently shared the bill with notable national touring acts Vertical Horizon and Toad the Wet Sprocket. They’ll be playing a show in July with the Gin Blossoms at Brixton Southbay in Redondo Beach, CA.
“We are so excited that all of our hard work and love of making great music has gotten such awesome response from the folks in the Southbay. With so many great live bands in the Southbay, we’re thrilled about the amount of love our hometown fans are showing us,” comments Jason Carver, founder and guitarist of Barley Legal.
- Barley Legal’s debut album, All Your Stories
This award comes on the heels of the November 2010 release of “All Your Stories,” the debut album from Southern California’s Barley Legal. Recorded in the span of a couple months in early 2010 at John Baffa’s TV Tray Studios in Simi Valley, the album captures the feel and flavor of California’s Southbay unlike any other recording. Barley Legal opted to go “old school” with their debut, recording most of the album live in the studio to analog tape, with very few overdubs. The result is an earthiness that reminds the listener of those old LP’s from the 1970’s.
ALL YOUR STORIES features the track “Sunshine” which won an award in the Rock category at the Malibu Music Awards in September 2010.
Barley Legal is Jason Carver (acoustic guitar), Jay Constable (bass, vocals), Stephen “Saxy” Herring (Saxophone), , Nate LaPointe (electric guitar, vocals), Mike Morano (keyboard), Brent Reger (vocals, trumpet), and Chris Shea (drums).
The album was produced by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Nate LaPointe, and was mastered By Evren Gokner at Capital Records in Hollywood.
Album guest musicians are Chris Payne (Precussion, Track 2), Alan Busteed (Violin, Track 3), Chris Murphy (Violin/Mandolin Track 3), GarikTerzian (Cello Track 3, 6) and Ron Blake (Trumpet Track 5)
