On a Sunday afternoon, while Los Angeles was reeling from an over-hyped Carmageddon weekend, Grateful Dead tribute, Cubensis, moved their normal Sunday evening time slot from The Central in Santa Monica, CA to Bluebird Park in Laguna Beach, CA, to the delight of the Dead family with children.
Kicking off at 5pm on Sunday afternoon, adults and children filled the park in the hills, just a few blocks off the bustling Laguna Beach stretch of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) to hear some free Grateful Dead music. Hippies danced and children played on the wonderland of playground options in the park while Craig Marshall and company wove a musical tapestry of Grateful Dead favorites for them.
As the sun slowly sunk into the Pacific and the band closed out the day with “Sugar Magnolia,” Marshall announced “We’ve done run out of time” to a disapproving park full of people. Moments later they returned to finish the song with it’s signature “Sunshine Daydream” ending. Leaving the stage once again, only to return with an amazing cover of Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” sung by CeCe Sherman.
A fine day for a party in the park. This show kicked off a series of concerts at the Bluebird Park this Summer.

7/31 The Police Experience
8/7 Opa Opa – Latin
