It’s no Coachella and There’s No Alcohol or Beer Garden, But It Brings in 60 LA-Area Independent Bands and 100,000 Music Fans

Who needs big concerts venues, going way out to the desert and paying high prices and having to put up with the likes of Ticketmaster when there are events like the Eagle Rock Music Festival?
Sure, it’s a neighborhood event and it’s only one afternoon and evening – 4-11 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 1 in 2011 – but it attracts LA-area independent bands, brings in 100,000 people and asks just $5 as a donation.
The event is full of music for its seven hours. There are seven stages, the main one called the Emerging Stage. It alone has six bands scheduled.
In all, 60 bands are performing. Among them are Health and Flying Lotus, both which have played Coachella, the huge multi-day festival in the desert that charges $300 for a required all-weekend pass.
With the cancellation this year of the popular but apparently ill-funded Sunset Junction music festival, the Eagle Rock Music Festival provides music festival lovers in Los Angeles and Hollywood the opportunity they missed earlier.
One drag for music lovers is that there are no on-site alcohol sales. Somehow, having a drink, be it beer or a cocktail, listening to concerts is part of the live music experience. The alternative is to grab drinks at Verdugo Bar and the Black Boar, two bars in the area.
The Eagle Rock Music Festival takes place on at Colorado Blvd., and Eagle Rock Blvd. The link to its website is here.
