Southern California’s premier Grateful Dead Experience, Cubensis, will host their annual Halloween Costume Ball this year at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, CA on October 28th. Joining Cubensis will be Jerry Garcia Band Tribute, The Maykers, and Long Beach, CA’s The Memorial Highway. Cubensis will be joined on stage by former Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead) Band guitarist Barney Doyle.
Every year Cubensis “dresses up” as another tribute band and performs a complete album referred to as the “Mystery Album” which remains a secret until the concert. Previous years have included albums by The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Derek & The Domnios, Jefferson Airplane and many more. The “Mystery Album” will be followed by a full set of Grateful Dead music.
The Maykers, a special tribute to The Jerry Garcia Band, includes members of the Jerry Garcia Band, Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews Band. The Maykers are David Kemper (drummer for Jerry Garcia Band 83’-94’, Bob Dylan’s Band 5+ years), Andy Braunstein, Cheryl Rucker (vocals Melvin Seals and Jerry Garcia Band), Richard Hardy (Carole King Band 15+ years, Dave Matthews Band 30+ shows) Austin Bach (Groundation), Marty Holland (Melvin Seals and JGB 9 years), Scott McGregor. They will be performing a full set of songs by the Jerry Garcia Band. Lisa Malsberger, an orginal “Mayker”, will also sit in on backing vocals with Rucker. C W Causer will sit behind the, rare, second drum kit.
The Memorial Highway (formerly Heavywater) from Long Beach, CA will be opening the show.
