The Mother Hips are a true embodiment of the California tradition fusing pop, country and rock and roll into their own sound termed California Soul. Lead by vocalists Tim Bluhm and Greg Loiacono with drummer John Hofer and bassist Scott Thunes, the band has been touring California for the past 20 years and things have really taken off for them in the last 5 years or so where they have become a fixture of the western festival circuit. They have released 7 albums since 1992 including 2009’s Pacific Dust.

Newer on the scene, Old Californio blend American roots music with rock, earthen psychedelia and elements of electric folk into their own dusty and adventurous San Gabriel Mountain sound. The band is lead by singer songwriter Rich Dembowski who is joined by lead guitarist Woody Aplanalp (Bobby Womack, Nels Cline, Banyan), drummer Justin Smith, bassist Jason Chesney and keyboardist Levi Nunez. The has been aggressively touring the west for the past several years and has released three albums since 2006, including 2011’s Sundrunk Angels.

The concert will be an excellent opportunity for folks in the LA and OC areas to see two of the premier bands in California that follow in the West Coast and Grateful Dead traditions of song based improvisation and musical exploration.
