DAVID BOWIE
1/8/1947 – 1/10/2016
Over the course of a lifetime, you may encounter a small handful of artists who truly effect you in a way that no other has, or will again. For many, including myself, that was David Bowie. Not because I had all of his albums, knew every word to every song, or could even tell you the intimate details of his storied career. No, it was because every time I heard Bowie, be it Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars or the cheesy “Dancin’ in the Streets” video he did with Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones in the 80’s, his ability to make me smile never faltered. Shooting stars flash and then they are gone. Bowie was a fixed point in the rock and roll universe, forever there to light up those around him.
Recently, Bowie recorded a new album titled “Blackstar”. One particular video from the album was filmed before his passing and it is, for the lack of a better word, his farewell message to the world. Leave it to Bowie to give us a parting gift as he slowly and quietly slipped out the back door of life.
Bowie lost his private 18 month battle with cancer on January 10th. He was 69 years old. He leaves behind his wife Iman and two children.
