New Album Release from Elephant Revival

Petals_cover

The new album from Elephant Revival will be released on April 1st.  This is not an April Fools joke and neither is the new album from Elephant Revival, Petals.  To be quite honest, this is my first foray into the Elephant Revival catalogue and I’m not sure I’d even heard of them until very recently.  I certainly didn’t know what to expect and BOY am I glad they asked me to give this album a listen.

My musical flavors span the full spectrum and I truly like a little bit of everything.  That being said there’s something very nice about a simple beat, acoustic instruments and sweet harmonies layering themselves into a woven tapestry of beautiful Americana roots music.  That’s exactly what I get from Elephant Revival’s new album.  Banjos, pedal steel guitars, fiddle, cellos, bowed bass…that’s the stuff.

It’s impossible to put a finger on any one element that makes Petals a wonderful collection of songs.  Ethereal haunting vocals…check.  Simple melodies played at just the right time…check.  An homage to the Americana music foundation upon which so much has been built…check.  Elephant Revival is a band not trying to be anything more than what they are and what they are is a great group of musicians making great music.
