Tom Petty, best known for his band The Heartbreakers has passed away at the age of 66. Petty was found unresponsive Sunday night at his home in Malibu, CA as a result of a massive heart attack. Petty was rushed to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital in critical condition but never regained consciousness or brain activity. The decision to take Petty off life support was made and he died as a result at 8:40pm PST.

He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived.
He died peacefully at 8:40pm PST surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.

Petty finished his most recent tour, a 53 date 40th Anniversary Tour, last Monday at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA. The LA shows were three sold out nights.
