On Monday, given the uncertainty of the live entertainment business during COVID-19, AEG laid off or furloughed another 15% of their workforce. Today they announced the previously rescheduled Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival would be scrapped for 2020. The postponed Coachella dates were to be October 9th–11th and October 16th–18th. AEG announced staff cuts Monday with 45,000 full-time employees reportedly furloughed or laid off and another 300,000—400,000 part-time and freelance employees let go.
“Coachella” takes place in Indio, CA at the Empire Polo Club and is produced by GoldenVoice and their parent company, AEG. Last year, 2019, the festival celebrated their 20th Anniversary. This year they released “Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert”, a documentary about the event.
