Today, Hermosa Beach chamber of commerce announced the cancellation of this year’s Labor Day Fiesta Hermosa scheduled for Labor Day weekend in September (9/5-7. The multi-day street fair includes multiple stages for live music from many local Southbay artists. This year’s event included a Saturday “jamband” themed main stage with performances by Cubensis (Grateful Dead) and The Great Divide (Phish) among others. Rumor has it The Higgs were supposed to be on the line-up this year but this has not been officially confirmed. Guess we’ll have to wait until next year to find out.
Here’s the official statement from the chamber of commerce:
Fears over the rapidly spreading novel coronavirus outbreak are causing authorities to take extra precautions with mass gatherings and events around the world. As worries over COVID-19 continue to grow, so too does the list of major events and concerts that are being called off. Added to the list is the Labor Day Fiesta Hermosa, originally scheduled for the weekend of September 5-7, 2020.
“This is not a decision that the Chamber has taken lightly and we know that the cancellation will come as a huge disappointment especially after having to cancel Memorial Day Fiesta, but we believe it is necessary for the health and safety of our community. This has hit the Hermosa Beach Chamber extremely hard financially, as this is our prime income for the year. It enables us to support our local businesses, non-profit organizations and produce other major community events throughout the year, such as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Sidewalk Sales, Holiday Tree Lighting event, and the New Year’s Eve celebration”.
Maureen Hunt, President/ CEO of the Chamber.
The Chamber understands the gravity of the situation for the vendors who participate in Fiesta Hermosa for their income, and to all the local businesses that rely so heavily upon the event for the increased traffic and sales it brings. The Chamber is hopeful for what 2021 will look like for Fiesta Hermosa and will be reaching out directly to vendors and all participants with further information.
