It seems that COVID-19 has claimed another victim. This time it is popular live music venue in Hermosa Beach, CA, Saint Rocke. Host to many great shows over the years, this is certainly a loss to the Southbay music community. Owners of Saint Rocke are also behind the BeachLife Festival in Redondo Beach, CA which, itself, had to be postponed this year due to the pandemic. Announcements have already been made for the reschedule for 2021 but it looks like their brick and mortar venue won’t survive.
The post on Saint Rocke’s Facebook Page reads:
Nothing lasts forever, and as our friend Kenny used to say — “You gotta know when to hold ’em, and know when to fold ’em.” So much has happened and its so far from being over, that four childhood friends just couldn’t figure out how to make the music last through this pandemic. We’ve had thousands of shows here, and whatever moves in next will never take those memories away. Serious inquires only — email allen@saintrocke.com.

A message from Allen Sanford, owner of Saint Rocke, on his Facebook Page:
Started Saint Rocke when I was much younger and hated going to Hollywood to listen to live music. I also was tired of hearing how good it was at The Strand in the 80’s… so without knowing anything about the music business, I opened Saint Rocke with some childhood friends and my brother. Felt like we were saving rock and roll, hence Saint Rocke, and for all those that have asked — the only reason I put an “e” on the end was so that it wouldn’t be so obvious. So many unbelievable bands, so many great people met through the love of music, and life lessons learned that I’ll never forget — all through a place that I truly believe made the South Bay just a little bit better and nicer.
This pandemic has been real. For all the small business owners that have struggled along, my heart is with you. And I hope that everyone else has a little patience with all of our restaurants and retail shops just trying to stay in business.
So, I’ll leave it with one of my favorite memories. Met this rad chick early around 2010 and she wouldn’t give me the time of day, but heard she loved reggae. So as a surprise, I booked Don Carlos…and that girl that we all knew as the SlyFoxx, Colleen Sanford, ended up becoming my wife a few years later. Leave me a memory of yours if you’d amuse me…
