Yesterday afternoon we read the shocking news that CJ Robertson, member of the Southern California based Grateful Dead tribute, The Alligators, has passed away. Prior to being an Alligator, Robertson was the Director of Football Operations at Pomona/Pitzer Colleges and spent a brief time coaching football in Italy as well. Robertson died Thursday morning from heart failure while having breakfast with his mother. He was 52. A private memorial is planned at a park in Glendora, CA next weekend.
The Alligators, who focus on the Pig Pen era of Grateful Dead music released the following statement via their Facebook page:
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to report the passing this morning of our Band Mate, good friend, and brother … C.J “McSwamp” Robertson III. There was nothing he loved more than meeting all you wonderful folks, Playin in the band, and being a part of this Grateful musical journey … He was the Anchor to the band and will be missed. Fare the well my brother ! … C.J was and will forever be an Alligator … RIP McSwamp!
