On November 11, Los Angeles jam bands, Quactus and Particle will join forces at The Mint in Los Angeles, CA to raise money for “Off The Mat – Into The World” Global SEVA Challenge for South Africa. This concert will be the 10th show of the “Particle 10 Year Anniversary Tour” which began on October 6th in San Diego, CA.
The Global Seva Challenge is a transformational journey that builds community, provokes critical consciousness about global issues of social justice and equity, and raises significant funds to support communities in crisis. In our first two years, the Global Seva Challenge has raised over one million dollars for NGO’s in Cambodia and Uganda and has left a powerful legacy in the communities we have served. In 2010 our Seva Challenge will be focused on HIV/AIDS prevention and education in South Africa.
“We are very excited to join up with Particle to raise money for such a great cause to bring AIDS awareness to South Africa. Our new album (A Sense of We) is all about bringing the community together to help each other, ” said Gabe Weiner, Quactus guitarist.
For the 10 Year Anniversary tour, Particle reunites with original guitarist Charlie Hitchcock for a select number of shows to celebrate the band’s 10-year anniversary. This is the first time in five years that Hitchcock has joined the band on tour, and fans can expect to hear all the Particle classics, as well as new material. At the Roxy show in Los Angeles, Particle was joined on stage by Robbie Kreiger from The Doors.
Since creating their signature high-energy Funktronic Rock sound in Los Angeles in October of 2000, Particle has played thousands of concerts in eight different countries, and has collaborated with other musicians ranging from Robby Krieger (The Doors) to Groove Armada. Their 2004 debut album Launchpad (featuring Hitchcock) was produced by Tom Rothrock (Beck, Moby), and was voted one of the top 10 albums that year by the Associated Press.
Quactus has been touring in support of their recently released album, A Sense of We, including a helping Paricle kick off their tour at Winston’s in San Diego on October 6th. Shortly before the release, Relix Magazine named the first track off the album, “At Ease,” as “Editors Pick of the Month” in their April-May 2010 issue.
