While the Grateful Dead often sounded like a symphony, they fell a few woodwinds short of the real thing. Now here is your chance to catch the music of the Grateful Dead performed by a real orchestra with original Grateful Dead guitarist, Bob Weir and members of his band, RatDog.

On May 7th, 2011, a “band beyond description” will take the stage in at the Marin Center in San Rafael, CA when Bob Weir and members of Ratdog team up with the Marin Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Grateful Dead music. “The concert features Grateful Dead songs orchestrated and arranged for the first time by noted composer-arranger Dr. Giancarlo Aquilanti of Stanford University and Bob Weir,” says the Marin Symphony website.

Keeping the WOW factor up, “Dr. Aquilanti and Weir collaborate on symphonic arrangements for the Grateful Dead repertoire and many Grateful Dead classics will be played during the program. The program ends with Weir along with his rock musicians including Jeff Chimenti, Jay Lane, Robin Sylvester and Rob Wasserman, playing improvisational pieces with Symphony musicians and the Grammy winning Quartet San Francisco.”

Pre-sale tickets will be available January 31 via www.gdtstoo.com,. The public on-sale will begin February 4 and will be available through the Marin Center Box Office (11am-4pm PT, 415-499-6800) as well as through www.ticketmaster.com.
