After 23 years of “keeping the flame alive” for Deadheads in the greater Southern California area, veteran tributeers CUBENSIS are on the road in a long-awaited tour of the West with original roots rockers Roy Jay Band as support.

Known as the only Dead tribute to actually receive Jerry Garcia’s blessing to perform Grateful Dead music, the band strives to take the music where it might have gone had the Dead stayed together. According to fans and music critics alike, Cubensis succeeds in capturing the essence of this legendary band.

For 35 years, a musical troupe called the Grateful Dead toured the nation, delighting thousands with their eclectic brand of American rock n’ roll. Now, CUBENSIS brings the Grateful Dead concert experience back to life, performing a 3-hour show that retains all the spontaneous exploratory jamming for which the Dead were renowned. The band doesn’t reproduce the songs note for note—though it would be hard for most listeners to tell. The music is highly improvisational, with rock, country and jazz influences. Cubensis members say that within these timeless classics, there’s room for interpretation while remaining authentic.

Cubensis has been acclaimed for giving new life to the Grateful Dead’s material, bringing in new styles, new innovations, and new jam band fans, while remaining loyal to the original music and the original fans. You won’t find the band wearing wigs and fake beards to re-create the Dead experience. They prefer to use the Dead’s music and their own instrumental prowess to create a fun and magical evening for audiences around the country.

Roy Jay Band

Drawing from the wide swath of American-music styles, Roy Jay Band performances have become, at turns, forays into rhythm-and-soul, gritty blues-rock, lithe funk-jazz, and even the occasional free-form psychedelic freak-out–all tied together by the seasoned ensemble. On the heels of recent tours supporting venerable acts including Little Feat, Donna the Buffalo, and The Radiators, Florida-based roots rockers Roy Jay Band is poised to continue bringing its unique brand of music to an ever-growing national audience.
