Grateful Dead “Sunshine Daydream” Movie of Veneta, OR August 27, 1972 in Theaters

Well, smack my butt and call me new born.  When the Grateful Dead and Fathom Events started doing their series of Grateful Dead concerts in the theaters, I thought it was a great idea.  A chance to see the Grateful Dead Movie on a big screen.  We’d all seen it…at least those of us who are “deadicated” heads.  Deadheads dancing in the aisles at local movie theaters across the country all on the same day at the same time.  Teleporting us all back in time to the late 70’s GD show.  I even attended with a few people who cried out, “THERE I AM” recognizing a younger and more spry version of themselves on the large movie screen.

This year, they’re going to do it all over again but this time they’re going to show a film that’s near and dear to your author’s heart, August 27th, 1972.  A show performed in Veneta, OR a mere four days before I was birthed into the world.  Had I known the Dead were playing this show days before, I might have come out sooner!  It’s an epic three set show.  Apparently the stage was facing the sunset and the heat of the late Summer Oregon sun was causing the instruments to go out of tune so the band retired until the air got a bit cooler and the sun began to dip down into the deep blue.  The date of the showing of the “Sunshine Daydream” movie will be another notable date in the world of Deadheads…Jerry Garcia’s birthday, August 1st.
