Grateful Dead Tribute Cubensis Singer Calls It Quits

Christine “CeCe” Sherman

If you live in or around Southern California and are a fan of the Grateful Dead music then you’ve likely seen the band Cubensis perform.  For the last 26 years they’ve been spreading the Grateful Dead spirit around liberally to the Deadhead community in Southern California and beyond.  Eight years ago they added to their line-up the soulful voice of Christine “CeCe” Sherman and fans were glad they did.

This past week, Sherman announced that she would be leaving the band to pursue other interests.  This came as a shock to her “deadicated” fans and a long outpouring of well-wishes on social media followed.

The final Cubensis show with CeCe will be New Years Eve at the Best Western Golden Sails’ “Crystal Ballroom” in Long Beach, CA.  GrooveSession will open the night.  Tickets are available via www.cubensis.com.

We wish her all the best on her journey and hope that once in a while she’ll come back and share a song or two again.

Read Sherman’s farewell message to the fans below.

“Good morning, Cubensis fans & friends:

As a lot of you know, my advertising education and pursuing my career in writing have become my #1 priority for these past two years. My ad writing portfolio is nearing completion, and I’ve also entered an international advertising campaign competition called The One Show. I’ll be applying and interviewing for copywriting jobs in Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, yes Los Angeles, and even some agencies in Europe. I love this career path that I am on, and I feel wonderfully optimistic about it. Sadly the time has come to make the announcement to you all – this New Years Eve at the Golden Sails will be my last show with Cubensis.

I’m a singer. I will always sing, it’s a huge part of my life. Wherever I end up, I will sing there too, and I’ll keep you all in my heart. I have the utmost respect for the band, the crew, the and the bond that we share. I sit here reflecting on the last 8 (!!) years I’ve spent with all of you and there are so many happy memories. Thank you Cubensis for taking a chance on a 22 year old girl with virtually no experience, teaching me so much about music and performing, introducing me to so many wonderful friends, and including me on such an amazing experience. I love you all dearly.

~ Christine Sherman”
