Happy Birthday, Jerry!

August 1st, 2010 would be Jerry Garcia’s 68th birthday.  In memorial of the late great leader of the Grateful Dead, many celebrations will take place across the county.  Here’s a list of the some good shows to catch to celebrate Jerry’s Birthday!

Jerry Jam, Irvine Lake, CA:  Featuring So. Cal’s top Grateful Dead Tribute, Cubensis, the Jerry Jam will take place all weekend.  Gates open at noon on Friday, July 30th and entertainment for the weekend includes Cubensis, Mo Gypsys, Barley Legal, Hempstring Orchestra, Old Californio, Jetwash, Groove Session and Business Hours.  Located at the beautiful Irvine Lakes, the Jerry Jam won’t break the bank at $25/day or $4o/weekend including camping.  Irvine Lakes is located at 4821 Santiago Canyon Road, Silverado, CA 92676.

25th Annual Jerrys Birthday Bash at Sunshine Daydream:  Highlighted by New Riders of the Purple Sage, Steve Kimmock’s Crazy Engine and Jemimah Puddleduck, Sunshine Daydream will once again host a killer festival celebrating Jerry’s Birthday.  Sunshine Daydream is located at 428 Jerry Garcia Way, Terra Alta, WV, 26764.  Tickets run $65 pre-sale, $80 at the door.

8th Annual Jerry Day Celebration, San Francisco, CA:  Rex Foundation is pleased to announce a special grant to support Jerry Day in San Francisco.  Jerry Day is a civic and cultural event that celebrates San Francisco native son Jerry Garcia. The free event captures the true spirit of Jerry Garcia, celebrates his legacy at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and recognizes his childhood roots in the Excelsior District.

The 2010 event is Sunday, August 1. Jerry Garcia Amphitheater is in the Excelsior District at McLaren Park in the City and County of San Francisco. The outdoor amphitheater was renamed Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in 2005.  Jerry Day 2010 will feature Melvin Seals w/ Jerry Garcia Band.

Orpheum Theater Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash, Flagstaff, AZ:  The Orpheum is will celebrate Jerry Garcia’s Birthday with an all star event on Saturday, July 31st, 2010.  Six bands paying tribute to Jerry with different arrangements and covering music from his long career from Old & in the Way, Garica Grisman, Jerry Garcia Band & The Grateful Dead. There will be non stop Jerry being performed for many hours, so come early and stay late! The whole week will celebrate Jerry and his music, with the Rhythm Devils rocking the Orpheum on July 27th. Acts are Craig Yarbrough, Mandy Ferrarini & Matt Germansen, FARGUS, Knuckle Sandwich, Volunteer String Band and the Jerry All Stars! Closing the night with an electric All Star cast of revolving musicians from many AZ Bands. Doors 7 PM Show 8 PM $5 Cover at the Door All Ages.

  2. Don’t forget the Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale, OR on Sun. Aug 1. Music starts at noon and is outdoors and free, featuring Portland’ own “Garcia Birthday Band” and “Freak Mountain Ramblers.”
